About us

Courage companions was started in 2024. At Courage Companions, we distribute 18 inch dolls for children undergoing cancer treatment at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital. We are looking to expand our organization to other children’s hospitals. The children undergoing treatment have looked forward to receiving their own 18 inch dolls. These dolls have helped bring comfort to children, helped children feel less alone, and brought joy during difficult times.

Our Story

After first hand experiences of the impact that cancer has on individuals, families, and whole communities, we were determined to find a way that we could help.

In the Fall of 2023, our Dad was diagnosed with Lymphoma. Fortunately, his cancer was completely curable, due to modern research. However, chemotherapy was still a difficult and emotionally draining process for our whole family.

Amidst all of this, two family friends of ours passed away from childhood cancer at the ages of 17 and 18. They had each been fighting cancer for over 5 years. We were inspired by their bravery and resilience, and wanted to find a way to make a difference in the lives of other children in similar situations.

Growing up, we have always shared a love of American Girl Dolls. In times of difficulty and loneliness, we would look to our dolls for emotional support. When playing with our dolls, we immersed ourselves in a world of creativity, where all our problems could temporarily disappear. As we’ve grown up, dolls have continued to be a large part of our lives, although we connect with them in different ways than when we were younger. With Courage Companions, our hope is to share this connection with children who are experiencing the unthinkable.
